River Bend Golf & Country Club is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located on the Trent River, about 10 minutes from mid-town New Bern, North Carolina.
River Bend Golf & Country Club first opened for play in 1973. The course was designed by Gene Hamm.
The course was built on flat terrain and is very walkable. The fairways are tree lined. Some ponds come into play. There is more water in play on the back nine and there are no parallel holes on the front nine. The medium sized greens average 6,300 square feet and are moderate in speed. River Bend Country Club plays from 5,001 to 6,500-yards and offers four sets of tees to challenge all skill levels.
#14, a short par 4 (301 yards) has made many a golfer weep. With a sharp dogleg to the left, this hole tempts many golfers to bite off more than they can chew. Long-hitters often try to drive the green, usually ending up in the pond that protects the front of the green. The smart play is to hit about a 200 yard drive down the right side leaving a wedge to the green.
#18, a 400 yard par-4, is the signature hole. A 240 yard drive from the back tees will leave you about a mid iron into the somewhat deep but narrow green. Don't slice your tee shot as there is water all the way down on the right side. Par is a great score on this finishing hole.
